Consultant Program

Mission and Goals:

The purpose of the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) Consultant Services program is to engage with higher education professionals who wish to seek external, expert reviews, training, and recommendations on the conduct and conduct-adjacent services provided to institutions and organizations. ASCA strives to provide informed, research and evidence-based recommendations from an equity-informed lens that will lead to promising practices and innovation in our field. All services align with the Association’s Mission and Values and goals as well as ASCA Knowledge & Skills, ASCA Ethical Standards and Practices and CAS Standards

Services Provided:

ASCA Consultant Services offers services for every institution and organization type, as well as remote, in-person, and hybrid options. All services include access to ASCA resources, including some resources at reduced or waived cost. When possible, ASCA  also provides documentation for accreditation. Services may also be eligible for Continuing Education credits through the Higher Education Consortium for Student Affairs Certification.

ASCA Consultant Services offerings include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. External reviews, including for support of an accreditation process;
  2. Training opportunities;
  3. Policy and procedure reviews;
  4. Building/revamping a conduct system;
  5. Consultant (short-term or long-term)

Consultant Services Available:

External Reviews

Expert-level reviews of existing conduct and conduct-adjacent systems at an institution or organization, including for support of an accreditation process.

  • Initial meeting with identified team lead(s) to identify areas of strength, opportunities for growth, and focus points for ASCA’s review;
  • A curated pre-assessment provided to identified constituents of the institution/organization;
  • Review of materials provided by institution/organization to ASCA consultants;
  • Meetings with identified constituents of the institutions/organizations;
  • A full formal assessment (end-of-review report) that includes overview of findings, analytics, benchmarking, suggestions for implementation, as well as a virtual session to review the report and answer final questions;
  • Recommendations on equity-informed decision-making as permissible by the institution or organization’s state or local laws;
  • Post-Assessment provided to the institution/organization to share feedback regarding their consultant experience;
  • Providing documentation as needed for accreditation process(es);
  • Availability of consultants for short-term engagements (i.e., follow up questions or recommendations) for up to two months after the date final report is provided.

Training Opportunities

Expert-level training for conduct and conduct-adjacent faculty and staff at an institution or organization. Training sessions can be scheduled for as little as an hour up to multiple days in a remote, in-person, or hybrid environment. Training is available on topics including, but not limited to, the topics listed below.

Building/Revamping a Conduct System

Expert-level insight, recommendations, and resources for the building or revamping of an institution or organization’s conduct system. ASCA Consultants will provide:

  • Initial meeting with identified team lead(s) to identify areas of strength, opportunities for growth, and focus points for building/revamping of conduct system;
  • A curated pre-assessment provided to identified constituents of the institution/organization;
  • Review of materials provided by institution/organization to ASCA consultants;
  • Review and assessment of a current conduct office and system (if applicable);
  • Recommendations and structure for the building of a conduct office and system;
  • Training for conduct practitioners, from new professionals to seasoned professionals and including upper-level administrators with conduct responsibilities (see “Training Opportunities” for more information);
  • Recommendations on equity-informed decision-making as permissible by the institution or organization’s state or local laws;
  • Post-Assessment provided to the institution/organization to share feedback regarding their consultant experience;
  • Availability of consultants for short-term engagements (i.e., follow up questions or recommendations) for up to two months after the date summary report is provided.

Policy and procedure reviews

Similar to an External Review, but focused wholly on the review of policy and procedures and recommendations related to policy and procedures only.

  • Initial meeting with identified team lead(s) to identify areas of strength, opportunities for growth, and focus points for ASCA’s review;
  • A curated pre-assessment provided to identified constituents of the institution/organization;
  • Review of materials provided by institution/organization to ASCA consultants;
  • Meetings with identified constituents of the institutions/organizations;
  • A full formal assessment (end-of-review report) that includes suggestions for implementation, as well as a virtual session to review the report and answer final questions;
  • Recommendations on equity-informed decision-making as permissible by the institution or organization’s state or local laws;
  • Post-Assessment provided to the institution/organization to share feedback regarding their consultant experience;
  • Availability of consultants for short-term engagements (i.e., follow up questions or recommendations) for up to two months after the date final report is provided.

Consultant (short-term or long-term)

Retain expert-level consulting for primary conduct staff at an institution or organization. Consultant services can be short or long term:

Short-Term: Connect with ASCA Consultant(s) on a specific question, need, initiative, or other short-term service needed.

Examples:

  • A campus seeking to implement new case resolution outcomes;
  • A professional seeking to connect regarding a particular case or initiative;
  • An organization looking to review their conduct position description and seeking good practices.

Long-Term: Connect with ASCA Consultant(s) who are specifically assigned to your institution or organization for long-term consultation. This option would also include direct outreach to the primary conduct practitioners at your institution or organization to communicate regarding ASCA events, new ASCA resources, and significant changes or legislation impacting the conduct field. Note: One of these consultants would be either the ASCA Executive Director or the ASCA Assistant Executive Director.

Examples:

  • Retaining an ASCA Consultant as a “point person” for insight and assistance with recommended practices.
  • Retaining an ASCA Consultant to assist with annual or biannual staff training, including CARE teams, Title IX teams, and administrators with conduct responsibilities.
